In addition, it binds to natural antibodies in serum to inactivate complement, forming a complex called zymosan, antibody, and complement, or ZAC 142, where the "142" refers to the three components of complement. ZAC 142 can cleave and inactivate the third component of complement. Zymosan was also used for the purification and detection of properdin.
