Lipopolysaccharides(LPS)

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is located in the outer layer of the membrane and is exposed on the cell surface in non-encapsulated strains. They contribute to the integrity of the outer membrane and protect the cells from the effects of bile salts and lipophilic antibiotics. The product was extracted from E. coli serotype O127: B8 and purified by ion exchange. The source strain was ATCC 12740.
