Porphyromonas gingivalis is a gram-negative bacterium associated with adult periodontitis. The lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a characteristic component of the cell wall of the gram-negative bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis. The lipopolysaccharides derived from Escherichia coli are different in structure and various functions. It was demonstrated that LPS from E. coli and porphyromonas gingivalis had different regulatory mechanisms on the surface expression of differentiation cluster 14(CD14), Toll-like receptor 2(TLR2) and Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), and primary and secondary cytokine responses.
