This derivative has different properties from natural lectins in that succinylated wheat germ lectins do not bind to sialic acid residues, but retain their specificity for n-acetylglucosamine. Luciferin labeled succinylated WGA has the appropriate amount of fluorescent dye to provide the best staining properties for this lectin. The conjugated compound basically does not contain uncoupled fluorescent dyes. The maximum excitation wavelength is 495 nm and the maximum emission wavelength is 515 nm.
