Cy5-labeled dextran is one of the nanoscale fluorescent dextran conjugations that emit red fluorescence. The Cy5 glucan conjugate has an excitation/emission wavelength of about 646 nm /662 nm. Dextran can be labeled with various fluorescent compounds whose light excitation/emission spans from 400 nm to 800 nm. These fluorescent central glucans are purified by size chromatography to remove non-conjugated dye molecules and ensure adequate applications in vitro and in vivo.
