Soil superoxide dismutase (S-SOD) plays an important role in soil ecosystem, which can catalyze the disproportionation of superoxide anions to produce H2O2 and O2. SOD is not only a superoxide anion scavenging enzyme, but also a major H2O2-producing enzyme, which plays an important role in the biological antioxidant system.
Superoxide anion (O2-) is produced by the reaction system of xanthine and xanthine oxidase. O2- can react with WST-1 to form water-soluble yellow formazan, which has an absorption peak at 450 nm. SOD can scavenge O2-, thereby inhibiting the formation of formazan;the deeper the yellow color of the reaction solution, the lower the activity of SOD, and the higher the activity.
