Lentinan is derived from Shiitakes and is a glucan with β-D(1→3) glucan residues as the main chain and β- (1→6) glucan residues as the side chain. Lentinan is a gray white powder, mostly acidic polysaccharide, soluble in water, dilute alkali, especially soluble in hot water, insoluble in ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, ether and other organic solvents, its aqueous solution is transparent viscous. Lentinan (Lentinan) is a special immune adjuvant directed by thymus dependent T cells and involving macrophages. It can recognize antigens in the spleen and liver, promote the production of lymphocyte activating factor, release a variety of helper T cell factors, and enhance the phagocytosis rate of host peritoneal macrophages. "Some physiologically active serum factors, such as acute-phase protein-inducing factor, vasodilator and bleed-inducing factor, IL-1 production inducing factor, IL3, and colony-stimulating factor, peaked in their levels." These factors act on lymphocytes, hepatocytes, and vascular endothelial cells to produce a number of effective immune responses, while causing precursor T cells in the thymus to mature, differentiate, proliferate, and release to the periphery.
